Virtual Emergency Room
The “Virtual ER” has gone into trial operation in southeastern Austria with much media attention. The Virtual ER links the dispatcher and vehicles of the Red Cross as well as all emergency care providers and emergency hospitals of the region in order to get patients to the “nearest suitable hospital” as quickly as possible. The software makes it possible to select the hospital and then “pre-admit” the person in the ambulance by sending ahead data like age, gender, urgency and diagnosis. The idea of the Virtual ER is to prevent needless driving from one hospital to the next, saving time and getting patients to the right place faster.
